It’s not that easy. Who will look after my child? And how can I be so selfish and ignorant? Who is going to cook food for the family? It’s not safe to wander at night. My husband won’t allow it. What will society say? Should get married at 25. That’s an appropriate age. She is a woman, she won’t be able to lift a heavy bat. And the pulling back judgments of people towards women go on and on and on!
This Women’s Day, Put a stop to all these assumptions!
Women around the world, despite facing uncountable plights, rise beyond and above all the presumptions that are enforced on them from the moment they are born. Today we are going to tell you about some inspiring Indian sportswomen, their struggles, and their accomplishments, who have made our country proud. Let’s start!
Mithali Raj: From 10-year-old wonder kid to women’s cricket, she became the only woman to cross 7,000 run marks in WODI matches (Women’s one-day International matches). She made 2000 runs in T20Is and set a national record for Indian cricket players (both women and men).
Deepika Kumari: Used to practice archery with bamboo bows and arrows. With no financial support as a child, she continuously pursued her dream and won several medals in the Asian Championships, the 2006 Archery World Cup, the Commonwealth Games, and many more national and international tournaments.
Phogat Sisters: Six sisters (Geeta, Babita, Priyanka, Ritu, Vinesh, and Sangita) from Haryana follow in the footsteps of their father. Geeta, Babita, and Vinesh all won gold medals in wrestling at the Commonwealth Games, while Priyanka has a silver medal from the Asian Championships, Ritu is a gold medalist and holds a national championship title, and Sangita has several medals from the International Championships (age-level).
Sania Mirza: She is one of the top women’s tennis players of all time. She was the first woman in our country to win a WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) title. She has won a total of 14 medals, six of which are gold, in many major sports (namely, the Asian Games, the Commonwealth Games, and the Afro-Asian Games). She was named one of the “50 Heroes of Asia” by the Economic Times in 2003.
Every woman contributes in their way towards the nation’s overall growth. Let’s cherish their achievements and accomplishments.
